The North West Skye Tour. Neist Point, Dunvegan Castle, Coral Beach. One Day Private Tour

North West Skye, Neist Point, Dunvegan Castle, Coral Beach, Sligachan and Talisker Distillery

Our North West Skye Tour visits a spectacular coral beach, cliff top Neist Point lighthouse, historic Dunvegan castle, mountain viewpoints and a famous whisky distillery.

  • We set off from the harbour town of Portree to Dunvegan Castle, the ancient seat of the Clan MacLeod.  Founded in the 13th century by the son of Norse chief Olaf the Black, it is still the home of the clan chief and is the longest continuously occupied castle in Scotland.  Tour the castle (entry fee not included) and its beautiful walled garden to learn about the dramatic escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie, saved from British troops by Flora MacDonald, and the legend of the 2000-year-old Fairy Flag.
  • Next a short drive on a spectacular single track road brings us to Coral Beach, a stunning stretch of white sand-like crushed coral. Its crystal-clear, azure blue waters are often compared to the turquoise seas of the Caribbean - just a bit chillier.
  • Next we drive through beautiful Glendale, which means the "fertile valley of river meadows", to reach remote Neist Point, the most westerly point of the island. Famed for its dramatic sea cliffs and iconic 1909 lighthouse, its hexagonal rock columns are similar to the Giants Causeway in Ireland. Neist point is a great spot for viewing whales, dolphins, and basking sharks.
  • On the return we have the option of visiting some of Glendale's craft shops and artists, including Skye Weavers and Skye Silver.
  • Then we travel down the beautiful west coast road to Loch Bracadale, and enjoy a dramatic panoramic view of the Cuillin mountains. The jagged 12 km ridge is all that remains of a 60 million year old super volcano.
  • We then travel to the beautiful village of Carbost, and Talisker Distillery visitor centre and a have an optional fireside dram of whisky (this is not a full tour).
  • Finally we stop off at the Old Bridge and the mythical river at Sligachan, for a surround view of the Cuillin mountains, before returning to Portree or your accommodation.
